Adding Evidence Style source referencing - a gift

Postby jhy001 » Fri Feb 26, 2010 20:15:51

I would like to encourage GenJ to add Elizabeth Shown Mills' Evidence Style source capability to GenJ. To that end, I have parametrized it and described it at http://jytangledweb.org/genealogy/evidencestyle . I am encouraging other genealogy software companies to look at this site as well, and they are free to take and use anything at the site. The major genealogy software companies already have adapted Evidence Style capability. My web site can be an aid to those that haven't, and maybe even leapfrog the others if all of my recommendations at the site are adopted. I'm not a Java programmer, so sorry, I can't help beyond the parametrization, but that is most of the battle, conceptual and coding.
I hope that your developers see merit in this and adopt it. Professional genealogists pretty much all have adopted the Evidence Style source reference style. If you doubt that, just Google around.

Anyway, this is a no strings attached gift. Feel free to use, abuse, modify, extend, etc.

Enjoy!

John
P.S. I'm not here much. If anyone needs to contact me, the best way would be to use my email link on the above web site.

Hi

interesting read - thank you.

Source mgmt is already in GenJ albeit in the complex workflow of managing Gedcom information directly and not elevated to the user as he manages top level data (ie events) in the UI.

Extensive source mgmt is coming though so I'll read up on what Elizabeth Shown Mills' Evidence Style adds to the mix.

Cheers
Nils
