GenJ 3.0 - was Beta - is GA

Postby nmeier » Fri Jan 29, 2010 0:29:05

ok, all the features that were supposed to go in are there - latest activities were around

+ ui tweaks (global undo/redo shortcuts, more info on references in editor)
+ Mac adjustments (thanks, Stephane, please try the latest)
+ printer problems (thanks, Daniel)
+ report restructuring (thanks, Paul!)
+ bug fixin'

Newest build is up - I'd consider that an official beta now

If we want to release this by the end of the week it's important to verify no-regressions, no-left-overs, inop ui elements, etc.

Help with testing un-usual paths is appreciated. Yes, delete your settings, try to create a new file, delete some stuff, check out the reports ... anything found now helps :)

Thank you
Nils

.. just an update.

We're still tweaking things and I'd like to get image viewing/editing in the (Standard) Editor figured out (atm it only really works for 5.5 files).

So it'll be another week or so

Regards

... latest update - a new build is up - image editing in standard view is inoperable (view only), small issues have been resolved

outdated link

I've created a new version of the Mac packaging - the previous seemed incomplete when looking at it on a friend's Mac last weekend. I've opted to circumvent the whole installer business and to create a Mac application that resides in a .tar.gz - Mac users should be able to drag it to the local application directory or run it straight from the unpacked archive. Please test.

Otherwise please poke at it - pending the latest changes re image editing this is pretty much what we'll release as 3.0 (soon hopefully)

Cheers

Stéphane, any chance to try out the mac packaged application? Thanks!

Another build

+ some rendering mechanics have changed: images in trees don't have to be of a certain (minimum) size anymore (option gone).
+ blueprints don't have to pick media properties specifically (still used for OBJE records templates though) - a suitable media item is being rendered whether in inline-FILE or OBJE record's FILE/BLOB
blueprint.html
Code: Select all
<prop path=INDI:NAME>'s image is <media max=25>

+ Mac application fixed and tested (finally found a machine to test on)

Some media mgmt functions still under construction sadly, but we're still inching towards 3.0

linked obsolete

Hi

we're there - functionality is complete for 3.0 - pending bugs.

Please especially test the non-gedcom mode editor regarding handling of Medias. One can now add/remove medias and a click on 'ok' should commit those changes.

Hopefully we won't have leftover regressions - fingers crossed for a release this week :)

Thanks for your help

I agree with Paul that congratulations are in order.

Tried loading on PC with the installer package, when I tried to run setup.exe from within Winzip the dialog boxes were hidden and didn't appear on taskmanager, had to export setup.exe and then run that only to be told setup was already running. Presume these are issues with winzip.

Intend to try the Mac installer later on father-in-laws Macbook.

Don't know if this is something in the local settings on my PC or something in the alignment of some of the dropdown boxes on the Edit tab but it seems right aligned so you miss part of the details - see attached
the birth should read
8 Sale Street, Bethnall Green, London, England
similar problems occur with the death address

Could you tell me what setting I need to alter on my machine please

Chris

Hi Guys

thanks :)

ChrisN wrote:dropdown boxes on the Edit tab but it seems right aligned so you miss part of the details

Ah, that used to work better I think - but I just checked and indeed something's missing to move the caret back to position 0 (I don't have values that long and didn't notice).

Fix is easy and will go into a nightly, 3.0.1 forward etc.

Thanks for the detailed report
